Flyers asked for feedback on Peterborough Airport
[ad_1]
The city is looking for feedback from residents now to help Peterborough Airport’s growth over the next 15 years.
From now until May 2, local people are invited to visit the city’s website to fill out a survey examining air travel habits.
The survey asks people whether they fly regularly within Canada or abroad, for example, whether they use Peterborough Airport or those in Toronto and Ottawa, and how much more they’d be willing to pay to fly to their destination directly from Peterborough.
There are two surveys available: one for people who fly for leisure, and another for business travellers.
The feedback will help inform a new master plan to guide the growth and development of Peterborough Airport until 2037.
In March the city hired the Ottawa-based firm HM Aero Aviation Consulting to work with city staff toward completing a fresh airport master plan. The goal is to have it ready for city council’s approval in late July.
The surveys are available on the city’s Connect Peterborough webpage here: https://www.connectptbo.ca/airportmasterplan
There will also be an online open house on April 25 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. where people can hear an overview of the project’s goals and offer further input to the consultants and to city staff.
Participants are asked to register on the city’s website here: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_nEunKoZuTOWmILYi_b4kSg
The master plan for Peterborough Airport was last updated in 2009, according to a new report city councillors received from city staff earlier this month.
Over the last 13 years, the airport has grown: today there are about 475 job positions at Peterborough Airport, the report states, across more than 20 businesses that are located on-site.
Businesses located at the airport include Flying Colours Inc., a firm specializing in the maintenance, repair, overhaul and refurbishing of mid-sized to large business aircraft.
The city will pay HM Aero Aviation Consulting $46,908 for its help updating the master plan so it guides growth until 2037.
Some staffers at HM Aero helped write the 2009 airport master plan, states the staff report, as well as completing various technical studies for the airport over the last decade.
Meanwhile a new committee to advise city council on how to increase business at Peterborough Airport was formed last year and met for the first time in October.
Mayor Diane Therrien, Coun. Don Vassiliadis and Coun. Stephen Wright are on the airport strategic initiatives committee.
Oliver Fuchs, Richard Cherney, Doug Armstrong and Kate Ahrens were appointed to the committee last year too.
