Continental Travel Singapore suspended from conducting travel agent activities

SINGAPORE: Continental Travel Singapore has been suspended from conducting vacation agent activities for five months from Tuesday (Jul 19), explained the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).

This follows Continental Travel’s attractiveness from the detect of intent to suspend its journey agent licence for its suspected involvement in fraudulent SingapoRediscovers voucher redemptions, said STB in a media advisory.

“Continental Vacation Singapore allegedly engaged in cashback preparations by partially refunding, in hard cash, the benefit of the SingapoRediscovers voucher bookings produced by some users of the community,” the tourism board extra. 

In September past calendar year, the police arrested 3 persons joined to the vacation agency for their alleged involvement in the fraudulent redemptions. Law enforcement investigations are ongoing, reported STB.

“STB takes a major watch of errant journey brokers and will not be reluctant to consider important action to safeguard the name of Singapore’s journey business, which include referring situations to the law enforcement,” it extra.

The tourism board claimed in September very last yr that Continental Journey experienced been taken off from the voucher scheme. 

The SingapoRediscover Vouchers scheme was released in December 2020 to help nearby tourism corporations difficult hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Singaporeans aged 18 and over acquired S$100 in vouchers, which can be utilised on staycations, attraction tickets and excursions.
