IHG signs Kimpton Koh Samui

Hospitality giant IHG is expanding the footprint of the Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants brand in South-East Asia with the signing of Kimpton Koh Samui.

Set to become the brand’s second hotel in Thailand, Kimpton Koh Samui’s impending launch will come hot on the heels of the October 2020 debut of Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok.

Kimpton has Koh Samui in its sights

Slated for debut later this year, Kimpton Koh Samui will host travellers across 138 guestrooms characterised by locally inspired design and heartfelt service on Choengmon Beach. The well-situated hotel lies within easy driving distance of Chaweng Beach, Fisherman’s Village Walking Street and Koh Samui International Airport.

“We are excited to continue our longstanding partnership with NYE Estate whom we share a common vision of elevating and growing the hospitality sector in Thailand, as well as new partners Multiply Partners and Capstone Asset to bring Kimpton’s heartfelt approach to hospitality to Koh Samui as we continue to expand the brand across the region as well as globally,” said Serena Lim, vice president of development in Southeast Asia and Korea for IHG.

“The strength of IHG’s brand portfolio has led to some exciting growth opportunities here in Thailand and this signing is a great example of that. There’s an appetite from owners to join the IHG family of brands and benefit from the power of our enterprise, as the strength and resilience of our brands come to the fore in the current environment.”

Locally inspired beachfront luxury

Two-thirds of the hotel’s accommodation will be suites and villas, with most accommodation offering Gulf of Thailand views. Its collection of pool villas with direct beach access promises to provide guests with complete tranquility and privacy.

The hotel aims to capture the brand’s signature playful but sophisticated design and innovative approach to restaurants and bars, while providing immersive experiences that foster human connection.

Visitors can expect to see local culture, textures and colours brought into every aspect of the guest experience. Four distinctive restaurants and bars will be joined by a pool, spa, fitness centre and kids club, as well as a 124 sq m event space.

“When we researched and experienced the Kimpton brand, we knew it was the ideal choice for our stunning luxury beachfront Koh Samui project,” said Titiwat Kuvjitsuwan and Soravit Chairoj, executive directors of Choengmon Real Estate. “The positioning, the design, the accommodation mix and the importance of restaurants and bars to the overall guest experience fit perfectly into the brand’s distinctive design and breadth and style of service.”

This signing is part of Kimpton’s continued growth across Asia, with further openings lined up for Bali, Suzhou, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Nanjing, Sanya and Kuala Lumpur.
