If you’ve been thinking about boosting your Marriott Bonvoy account balance, now just might be the time, thanks to a new credit card welcome offer from Marriott and partner American Express. For a limited time, the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® card will sport a new welcome offer that’s high enough to net new cardholders up to two free nights at some of Marriott’s most luxurious properties around the world.

From now until May 18, new cardmembers can earn up to 100,000 Marriott Bonvoy points—plus a Free Night Award worth up to 85,000 points—after spending $5,000 in eligible purchases on the card within the first three months of account opening (terms apply).

Wondering if the card is right for you? Here’s more about the perks and benefits you’ll get with the Brilliant card, as well as a few ways to put the welcome bonus to use.

Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant perks

The Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant is a premium card, meaning it comes with a steep annual fee of $450. But it’s also packed with credits and features that can easily help you recoup those costs. For starters, with the Brilliant, you’ll get a $300 Marriott statement credit that will kick in with eligible purchases at Marriott hotels—including room rates (enrollment required, terms apply). So if you already spend $300 on Marriott hotels yearly, that effectively brings your annual fee down to $150.

The card also comes with an annual free night certificate worth up to 50,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, which can be topped off with up to 15,000 Bonvoy points from your own account for a room worth as much as 65,000 points (terms apply). In many cases, the free night alone is worth more than the $450 annual fee, but particularly if you can also make use of the $300 statement credit, the card is a no-brainer.

That’s not all, though—cardholders also get Marriott Gold status, which unlocks benefits including enhanced upgrades and late checkout (terms apply). And with the card, you’ll earn six Bonvoy points per dollar on purchases at Marriott hotels, three points per dollar at U.S. restaurants and on flights booked directly with airlines, and two points on all other purchases.

How to spend the welcome bonus

In March, Marriott began pricing its award nights dynamically, meaning the price in points of a night at any given hotel can fluctuate from day to day. But for the rest of 2022, most Marriott properties will keep award prices within their former peak and off-peak ranges, making now the best time to lock in stays.

With 100,000 points, cardholders can book some of Marriott’s most aspirational properties—including the St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort in the Maldives. There are several award nights priced below 100,000 points throughout the remainder of 2022, and with the ability to top off the 85,000-point free night certificate with up to 15,000 points, the welcome bonus on its own will get you most of the way to two free nights there.

Another option? Use the points for more nights at a less expensive property—and bring the card’s annual free night into the mix. Koloa Landing Resort at Poipu, a member of Marriott’s Autograph Collection on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, shows several nights of 50,000-point availability throughout this November and December. With the 50,000-point annual night certificate, the 100,000 welcome points, and the welcome night certificate, you could put together a four-night trip.
